Medical Aid Cover Requirement for Pre-Registration Compliance Clearance

Comprehensive Medical Aid Cover

 

In terms of the Immigration Amendment Act 19 of 2004 any prospective international student intending to pursue studies to the Republic of South Africa, must be in possession of medical cover with a medical scheme registered in terms of the Medical Schemes Act, 1998 Act 131 of 1998. To comply with the above requirement, the University requires proof of comprehensive medical aid cover with a South African registered medical aid scheme.

  • This requirement is to be complied by a fully admitted international student which will be adjourning within the Republic of South Africa on either study visa, work/business visa, relative/spousal visa, visitor’s visa – section 11 (1) (b), exemption permits.
  • Asylum Seeker, Refugees and Permanent Resident Permit holders are exempted from complying with this requirement.
  • Diplomatic visa holders are permitted to provide proof of either comprehensive medical aid or medical insurance cover provided by a diplomatic mission served within the Republic of South Africa.
  • It is the most recent Medical Aid Membership Certificate issued by the service provider. – A comprehensive medical aid cover paid up for the academic year or month to month provided is included in the employment benefits and the scheme must be registered with the South African Medical Schemes of South Africa.
